| The Naukluft mountain range offers two day treks which makes it ideal for the build-up treks. Set in the Namib-Naukluft national park, the
mountains climb to 2 kms above sea level, making for some spectacular views, especially at the top of the Waterkloof trail (right). |

The Olive Trail begins by climbing steeply up to the plateau at the highest point and then immediately descends into a dry riverbed, which you
follow to get back to the beginning of the trail. Due to the fact that you are walking down a riverbed which flows in the rainy season, the terrain
is mainly large boulders which makes it hard going. |
| These boulders become larger towards the end, turning some sections into a scramble. |

It is marked rather ominously on the map as 'pool with chains'! This doesn't really tell you what to expect but it turns out that you have to climb
around the rockface with the aid of chains bolted to the canyon walls! I would advise taking the right-hand route (left-hand side in the pictures)
as this is half the length of left-hand route! |
| The Naukluft area is great for the build-up treks as both the Olive (10kms) and the Waterkoof (17kms) trails are challenging to every member
of the team in different ways. |
