Daan Viljoen Game Park is situated about 20 kms north of Windhoek, and but for the odd glances of the city (the lights in the distance), you could be in the middle of
nowhere. |
 |
 |
The animals on offer at the park are mainly of the antelope variety (the animals in the picture are Eland), but there are also giraffe, zebra
and wildebeest. There are several trails around the park but they are all self-guided walks as there are no dangerous predators in the
park. |
| There are better parks on offer in Namibia, such as Etosha, but if you are contemplating Fish River for the trekking phase, Etosha is not an
option as the two are at opposite ends of the country. Although it lacks some of the Big 5, Daan Viljoen does make a nice break and there is an
abundance of wildlife there, including giraffes. |

If you are feeling up to it, there is a nine km walk which takes you up to the highest point in the park, offering stunning views across the
park. Don't do what we did on an early-morning walk looking for zebra and attempt to climb to the top the hard way after getting lost! |
